Description: If you had to choose between Sbarro pizza, or any pizza, and using social media, which would you choose?

Sbarro Pizza or Social Media?

sbarroIn America, most people who make New Year’s resolutions typically begin to fall off, at the ten day mark of the new year, off whatever resolution wagon they may have climbed aboard. That includes the pizza wagon.

A new survey done for Sbarro Pizza shows that most people, as addictive as social media is, say it would be easier to give up Facebook and Twitter for all of 2013 than to give up a favorite food like pizza. The survey interviewed 1000 people and 39% of the group said it be difficult giving up pizza. Of the group, only 25% said it would be difficult to give up Facebook or Twitter.
Social media managers may be wondering who was in this sample.

“In today’s social media-driven world, it seems like we can’t live without constantly posting or Tweeting. However, when it comes to choosing between pizza or Facebook, the people’s choice is pizza,” said Lyssie Lakatos , registered dietitian, certified personal trainer and one half of the Nutrition Twins®.

Blame the Pizza

The Sbarro survey found that 48% of Americans are craving pizza within 15 days of their resolution to eat healthier. About 40% who did not fulfill their resolutions to eat better in 2012 blame pizza for their failures.

Sbarro Pizza has a new creation that may help people eat their favorite food (PIZZA) without placing good health on the altar of fatty fast foods.

“Today, you can find great food options when you’re craving pizza like the new Sbarro Skinny Slice™ that’s only 270 calories per slice and topped with better-for-you ingredients,” said Jim Greco , CEO of Sbarro.

I’m guessing this new Sbarro Skinny Slice Slice™ is similar to what Starbucks did a few years ago when they introduced the Skinny Latte. Sbarro, like Starbucks, is trying to entice those watching their calories into their stores. It’s a good idea that may just work.

At only 270 calories per slice, the Skinny Slice is prepared with premium ingredients including Roasted Red and Green Bell Peppers (we at PizzaSpotz love this already) Portobello Mushrooms and sweet, Caramelized Onions topped with a sprinkling of Mozzarella and Pecorino Romano cheeses (This is definitely a gourmet pizza).

* The Sbarro and Kelton Research study surveyed 1,000 Americans. The study was conducted as an online survey of the general population.

3 Replies to “Sbarro Survey Finds Giving Up Pizza Harder Than Facebook”

  1. G+ will probably be the loser in all of this giving up talk.

For me, Instagram and Foursquare I never use, so those would be the easiest to give up : )

  2. Very interesting article! I agree that Pizza is definitely a downfall for many people looking to eat healthy. I tried to give up Facebook for like a month this past semester and it made me crazy. I would cheat a lot logging in a few times a week to get information, check on someone, etc though. I guess I didn’t completely quit then, right? Here’s my list of which would be easiest to give up:

    1. G+
    2. Instagram
    3. FourSquare
    4. Twitter
    5. Pizza
    6. Facebook

Definitely had to debate over which would be easier — Twitter or Pizza. I think Pizza wins but it’s close…

  3. I\\\’ll start off with my list. I could give up in the following order:

    1) G+
    2) Pinterest
    3) Facebook
    4) Pizza (Can\\\’t believe I\\\’m putting pizza before Twitter!)
    5) Twitter
