If you eat at a pizzeria for any amount of time, you’ll notice not everyone is ordering a pan pizza or a slice of thin crust pepperoni. Some people prefer pizza alternatives. Maybe you’re not a pasta or sub sandwich eater but after years of eating pizza, you’re getting tired of it. Wait a minute, it may be time to go to the doctor or maybe it’s just time you tried one of these pizza alternatives.

This list is a little different from most lists that feature pizza alternatives. The lists I’ve seen usually list healthy alternatives, but you won’t find any bean sprouts or seaweed on this list.

Go enjoy any of the following at your local pizzeria. On my next visit to Lushaj’s Pizza and Pasta (my favorite pizzeria), I may just order a hot meatball sub instead of my usual two slices of cheese.

.

10. Ravioli

– (not the Chef Boyardee type)

This ravioli was made during a pasta making class at Pizzeria Ortica in Costa Mesa, CA.

.

9. Tortellini

Need great Totellini? Visit Joseph’s Pizza in Jacksonville, FL. Joseph’s Pizza has been a Jacksonville culinary delight since 1956.

.

8. Hot Subs / Cold Subs

Subs (hot or cold) are always a good pizza alternative when visiting a pizzeria. Hey, I might try a meatball sub tomorrow. I’m always visiting pizzerias. Yes, that sounds like a winner to me. Below is a list of some other typical subs found at pizzerias. The above sub can be found at Mickey’s Pizza and Italian Restaurant in Jacksonville, FL.

Some typical hot subs include:
* Meatball Parmesan
* Sausage Parmesan
* Chicken Parmesan
* Philly Cheese Steak
* Eggplant Parmesan

Some typical cold subs include:
* Ham and Provolone
* Salami Provolone

7. Eggplant Rolatini

Gino’s Pizza has been serving Babylon Village, West Islip, North Babylon & West Babylon since 1983. They deliver pizza (and pizza alternatives like Eggplant Rollatini) all Day – every Day – and in all types of weather. I’ve never had this entree, but I’ve delivered quite a few where I deliver pizza and pizza alternatives. Will I eat it in the future? Well, this picture has sold me on Eggplant Rollatini. It looks MmmmmmMmmmmm.

6. Chicken Fettucini Alfredo

Some of the best Chicken Fettucini Alfredo in Michigan can be found at Benito’s Pizza. They have over twenty locations all over the Wolverine state and one in Arizona.

.

5. Lasagna

Jeff’s Pizza Shop in Ames, Iowa and Menominie, WI serves some amazing lasagna. Yes, lasagna, Garfield’s favorite food is one of our pizza alternatives to be found in a pizzeria. Jeff’s serves their lasagna with garlic cheese bread. Okay, it doesn’t get much better than that.

4. Spaghetti and various sauces (meat, mushroom and sausage)

Spaghetti is a standard at every pizzeria. I’ve never had a bad plate of spaghetti when I’ve searched out pizza alternatives. What’s your favorite sauce. I’m a fan of meat sauce and I have to have some good meatballs to go with it.

3. Baked Ziti

If you find yourself in Manhattan’s financial district, you will be delighted to taste our number 3 pick on our pizza alternatives list at Georgio’s Pizzeria. The photo above is an example of their baked ziti (larger photo coming soon). So if you get to eat a baked ziti at Georgio’s Pizzeria, please tell them the guys at PizzaSpotz sent you.

2. Stromboli

– made with meat, spinach, chicken, supreme, sausage and peppers

B-52 Pizza in Broken Arrow, OK is on my list of best pizzerias in Oklahoma to visit and I almost ate there last year. I couldn’t find them and now I will remember, they are on 71st Street. One of their strombolis will make the trip well worth it. Strombolis come with any typical pizza topping stuffed inside. If you haven’t had one yet, it’s a good place to start if you are looking for pizza alternatives.

.

Finally, number one on our list of top ten pizza alternatives (not to be confused with the top ten healthy pizza alternatives) is….

1. Calzone

– Made with peppemroni, beef, sausage and other typical pizza toppings.

The above calzone is from Lushaj’s Pizza & Pasta in Euless, TX. One can’t get a better pizza alternative than a calzone from Lushaj’s. Calzones are found at every pizzera. You must try one and if you’re ever in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, go visit Lushaj’s, you’ll probably find me there.
