Little Ceasers Pizza was founded by Mike and Marian Illitch on September 20, 1959. Originally, Mike Illitch wanted to name the restaurant “Pizza Treat.” Wow, all those wonderful commercials from Little Caesars Pizza over the years may not have had the same ring to them if Mike Illitch had his way. Fortunately, his wife Marian wanted a different name for their restaurant. At her urging, the name “Little Ceasers” was added to “Pizza Treat” and the rest, as they say, is history.

The original Little Caesars Pizza store was opened on September 20, 1959 in Garden City, Michigan (a Detroit suburb). Coincidentally, Garden City, Michigan was also home to the first K-Mart store. In the 1990s Little Caesars Pizza and K-Mart teamed up and many K-Marts became home to Little Caesars Pizza franchises.

Mike and Marian Illitch are proud Michiganders. They own Little Caesars Pizza, an internationally known pizza chain, but they also own other successful businesses. These businesses include the Detroit Redwings of the National Hockey League, the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball, The Motor City Casino in Detroit and downtown Detroit’s Fox Theater among many other businesses.

I think it’s obvious to say, Mike and Marian Illitch are proud to hail from Detroit, Michigan.
